POMONA – 115th District State Representative Paul Jacobs (R-Pomona) shared news this week that the Illinois Department of Transportation is awarding $7 million for 21 projects that upgrade roads to accommodate local truck traffic. A portion of the grant funds will be distributed to the city of Mt. Vernon.
IDOT announced this week that $20,700 of a total expected $466,335 is being released to the city of Mt. Vernon to accommodate local truck traffic near the south entrance of Magnum Steel Works.
“These road construction dollars will benefit the businesses and citizens of Mt. Vernon by improving truck traffic on Route 15 on the west side of Interstate 57,” Jacobs said. “The investments being made to improve infrastructure in the city of Mt. Vernon will provide good-paying jobs and ultimately a safer, more efficient truck traffic infrastructure when the project is completed. This is a good start, but there is a long way to go.”
Last month, the Illinois Department of Transportation provided the third of six $250 million installments to local governments as part of the six-year, $33.2 billion capital program.
