State Rep. Paul Jacobs Announces Road Grant Funding Coming to 115th District

POMONA – 115th District State Representative Paul Jacobs (R-Pomona) shared news this week that the Illinois Department of Transportation is awarding $7 million for 21 projects that upgrade roads to accommodate local truck traffic. A portion of the grant funds will be distributed to the city of Mt. Vernon.

IDOT announced this week that $20,700 of a total expected $466,335 is being released to the city of Mt. Vernon to accommodate local truck traffic near the south entrance of Magnum Steel Works.

β€œThese road construction dollars will benefit the businesses and citizens of Mt. Vernon by improving truck traffic on Route 15 on the west side of Interstate 57,” Jacobs said. β€œThe investments being made to improve infrastructure in the city of Mt. Vernon will provide good-paying jobs and ultimately a safer, more efficient truck traffic infrastructure when the project is completed. This is a good start, but there is a long way to go.”

Last month, the Illinois Department of Transportation provided the third of six $250 million installments to local governments as part of the six-year, $33.2 billion capital program.
