POMONA – State Representative and Navy Veteran Paul Jacobs (R-Pomona) is thanking the Greatest Generation on Victory Day, or V-J Day.
“Without the service, sacrifice, and patriotism of the Greatest Generation, our country may not exist as it is today,” Jacobs said. “We owe a great debt of gratitude to those that stepped up and won the fight to defeat the Axis powers in WW II.”
V-J Day, or Victory over Japan Day, marks the end of World War II, one of the deadliest and most destructive wars in history. When President Harry S. Truman announced on Aug. 14, 1945, that Japan had surrendered unconditionally, war-weary citizens around the world erupted in celebration.
