Jacobs: IDFPR Launches Online Licensing System for Select Professions

POMONA – State Representative Paul Jacobs (R-Pomona) says the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation has finally launched a simplified online licensing system. Rep. Jacobs, a practicing optometrist, says three ‘pilot’ professions have been added to the IDFPR online portal, including clinical psychologists, nail technicians, and music therapists.

“I’ve been working hard to push the agency to modernize their licensing system,” Jacobs said. “We have a tremendous problem with a backlog of requests to renew licenses through IDFPR that we’ve been working to address during this General Assembly. It is good to see some movement in the right direction.”

This week, IDFPR announced a new online licensing system named CORE (Comprehensive Online Regulatory Environment) that will allow for a two-year, six phase transition to put Illinois’ professional licensing system completely online.

“IDFPR provides licenses for more than 300 different license types, and it has been working with an antiquated system for far too long,” Jacobs said. “I’m cautiously optimistic that this new system will move forward with very few glitches, and that the State of Illinois can move into the 21st century and end backlogs and improve workforce participation in critical occupational fields.”
