SPRINGFIELD, IL – State Representative Paul Jacobs (R-Pomona) released the following statement on passage of the Democrats’ tax and spend budget.
“I could not in good conscience vote for a spending plan that is not balanced and has prioritized illegal immigrants over those citizens of Illinois who should be our first priority. I have been adamant in our budget priorities: no tax hikes, fixing state agencies’ inefficiencies, and promoting economic growth.
“The FY 26 budget is one of the largest in Illinois history, and plans to spend more than $55.2 billion. This represents an increase of nearly $2 billion more than last year. In just six years, under Governor Pritzker’s watch, Illinois taxpayers are on the hook for over $15 billion in additional state spending. That means bigger government and higher taxes.
“This budget raises another $1 billion in taxes on Illinois’ working families and job creators. We need to budget within our means. We cannot create new programs without a pathway to pay for them, and we must take a realistic, financially responsible approach!”
