Jacobs: Pritzker Has No Authority to Mandate Masks at Schools

SPRINGFIELD – Following a Monday decision by the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules (JCAR) to block a new emergency rule that would require masks in schools, State Rep. Paul Jacobs (R-Pomona) says Governor Pritzker no longer has any legal authority to continue in his quest to keep kids in masks. Jacobs released the following statement on Tuesday evening.

“Today’s ruling by JCAR proves Governor Pritzker and his Department of Public Health do not have the authority over our schools to mandate masks be worn. The Governor lost in court last week, and today a duly elected, co-equal branch of government has weighed in. Democrats joined with Republicans in voting down the emergency rule. This is welcome, and long overdue. We must now turn our attention to helping our students make up the social-emotional and educational ground that was lost during the pandemic. I look forward to the Governor abandoning any more attempts to circumvent the authority of the courts and the legislature, and drop his school mask mandate policies for good.”
